The Padthaway, Tatiara and Tintinara-Coonalpyn water allocation plans were adopted between 2009 and 2012, and are due for review before 2019 to 2022.
In 2016 the Board held a series of public meetings at Bordertown, Tintinara and Padthaway, attended a number of stakeholder group meetings and invited written feedback.
To identify priorities, the engagement process focused on the following questions:
- What is working well with the current plans?
- What needs to be improved in the current plans?
- Should the three water allocation plans be amalgamated into one plan for the Upper South East?
- What forms of consultation during a review of the plans are preferred?
The feedback gathered provided the Board with clear indications of what is working well with current plans and identified areas to be considered in a revision process.
Based on the comments and feedback received the Board decided not to amalgamate the three current water allocation plans.
The community also suggested the formation of a local stakeholder representative advisory group to be involved as part of the review process.
A Stakeholder Advisory Group was formed for the Tatiara WAP review in 2017 and for the Padthaway WAP review in June 2019.

Each of the three water allocation plans will be reviewed separately. A review of the The Tatiara Water Allocation Plan is currently underway with a draft revised plan planned to be released for public consultation in July 2020.
A review of the Padthaway WAP commenced in April 2019 with a review of the Tintinara - Coonalpyn WAP scheduled to commence in 2022.
